Replace Your Old Window and Door Screens this Summer
You are probably enjoying the cool temperatures we’ve been experiencing in the morning and evening and wanting to leave your doors and windows open. Getting a blast of fresh air is invigorating and reminds you of why you live in the Pacific Northwest! The fresh breeze helps freshen up the house without ever having to spray a deodorizer or light a candle. Unfortunately, if your screens are not in good shape, you aren’t just letting in the breeze. You are likely letting in flies, mosquitoes and even bees. Don’t let torn screens and frayed window seals keep you from enjoying the beautiful weather. Visit Greenwood Hardware and pick up the supplies you need to repair or replace those screens.
Replacing a screen is pretty simple and probably less expensive than you would think. You can save even more money by replacing the screen material in your existing screen frame with a roll of screening material.
You will need:
- Screen
- Spline
- Rolling spline tool or even a butter knife or flat head screwdriver
- Scissors
Unroll the screen and place it over the frame. Cut the screen material to fit the frame, leaving about ½ inch on all sides.
Place the cut screen panel over the window frame and place a length of spline over the screen and push it into the slot in the frame. Use the rolling tool to gently push the spline into place and effectively sealing the screen to the frame. Make it nice and tight.
It is that easy to repair old screens!
