How To Install Wall-Mounted Bookshelves in Your Seattle Home
Shelving is something everyone can use in a crowded home. It helps keep things organized without taking up floor space. They can also be used solely for decorative purposes and are a great way to showcase some of your most prized possessions like pictures and family treasures. You will find just what you need to install your own wall-mounted bookshelves at Greenwood Hardware.
Before you head to our store to pick up your shelving supplies, you need to take some measurements. You need to determine how wide the shelves can be and how many shelves you can have. You may only have enough space for a single shelf or enough wall space to have three or more.
When you are buying your shelving, you can choose between finished wood, laminate or unfinished wood that you can stain any color you like. If you are purchasing a kit, the brackets and screws will be included. If you are purchasing individually, make sure you buy the right number of brackets. You will need two per shelf. You will want three per shelf if the shelves are going to be longer than three feet.
Locate the studs in the wall. You can use an electronic stud finder that alerts you to the solid wall. If you can’t find a stud, you could use drywall anchors to make the shelves a little sturdier. Use a measuring tape to measure an even distance apart on your shelves. For a shelf that measures 24 inches wide, you would want to come in about six inches on each side. Use a level to find the straight line between the two. Make a mark with a pencil. This will be where you drill your screws. Just make a small pilot hole for now.
Line the first bracket over the pilot hole. Put your screw in with the anchor if needed. Each bracket will generally need at least three screws at the top and another three at the bottom of the bracket. Do this for each side and each shelf you will be installing.
Depending on the type of shelves you bought, you can fit them over the brackets or anchor them to the brackets with additional screws.
There are plenty of options and styles of wall shelves. Head into Greenwood Hardware today and pick up the shelves that compliment your home style. Come on in, or contact us today!
