How To Decorate Your Yard Using Found Objects
Have you ever been cleaning up the house or maybe walking down the sidewalk and see something somebody left out for the trash man to pick up and thought to yourself, “Hmm, that is really interesting. Could I use that?” Many of us have this inner desire to reuse and recycle everything! It even has a name—repurposing. It gets your creative juices thinking as you contemplate how you could turn that old bathtub into something usable. The trick is to take something old or deemed unusable for its original purpose and turn it into something new and exciting. You will need a few tools and supplies to complete the transformation process. Fortunately, Greenwood Hardware has everything you need to do just that!
Old Tubs/Troughs
Bathtubs that are stained or leak are often sent to the landfills as are old troughs that are no longer holding water. Those old items make gorgeous planters in your garden and landscaping. Add some bright flowers to the tubs and set them in the corner of the yard for a contrasting display of brilliant color in something rustic.
Wooden Chairs
That one wooden chair that you found in the attic can be painted with vibrant colors and used as a plant stand in the landscaping. Get creative and use bold, contrasting colors to really make the chair stand out in a lush green landscaped. Set a couple of potted plants in the seat and you have a unique look that acts a centerpiece in your yard.
Old Wagons
You have probably seen those old wagons sitting around that are no longer useful toys. They may be rusted or missing a wheel, but they still hold appeal to the person who loves all things vintage. You can leave the wagon as is or repaint it a pretty red. Stick it in a corner of your yard and fill it with a variety of potted plants and herbs.
Broken Terra Cotta Pots
Use the pieces of your broken terra cotta pots to make mosaic art. You can buy a mold and the material needed to make stepping stones at your local hardware store. Use the broken pots to create a pretty pattern in the stones. You could also glue the stones to a table top. Paint the broken pieces in a variety of pretty colors to make it really pop.
Old Watering Cans
Grab that dented, rusted old watering can and give it a fresh new coat of paint. Paint pretty flowers on it and use it as a planter or simply use it in the landscaping as a piece of art. If you have several watering cans, arrange them in a fashion that makes them look like a valuable collection.
There is no shortage of “junk” in the world. One man’s junk is another man’s treasure. Even if it is your own stuff that has been put to the side, you can still find a way to reuse it and make it into something usable and completely unique. Have fun with it and get the kids involved. Head into Greenwood Hardware to find all the paint and other supplies you need to transform your old stuff into gorgeous pieces of yard décor.
