5 Quick and Easy Weekend Kitchen Upgrades
Spring and summer give us a renewed energy to take care of some of the little things around the house that we have been thinking about all winter. One of the most important rooms in your house is the kitchen – you are likely in it every day! It is a place for in-depth conversations over a delicious meal and a place to gather your wits first thing in the morning as you sip your morning coffee. Your kitchen deserves a little pick-me-up now and again and this summer is the perfect time to do just that. These are a few things you can do to revitalize your kitchen space, and of course you can find everything you need at Greenwood Hardware.
1. Get rid of your dark, old-fashioned cupboards and opt for shelving or open-faced cupboards. This gives the room a more open feel. Your kitchen will look modern, stylish and very airy! Go with light-colored woods and stains to really brighten up the kitchen area. Use stylish shelf brackets to add a little flair to your shelving. Position the bottom shelf about 18 inches above the counter top. You can opt to go 2 or 3 shelves high depending on your need.
2. Revamp your existing cupboards and drawers with new hardware. Decorative drawer pulls and cupboard handles can give your kitchen an entirely new look with just a few screws. This is an easy task that will not take very long at all. Visit your local hardware store to see the variety of available styles. Choose a style that coordinates with your kitchen’s overall style and color. You will want to do all of the cupboards and drawers to give the room a more uniform look.
3. Jazz up your ceiling by giving it a unique texture and color that really makes the room pop. Check out some of the texturing tools available at your hardware store. Add funky swirls or an ornate, antique tin style. Don’t feel like you have to stick with the standard white ceiling. Go bold and try a bright blue or a subtle sea green.
4. Splash a new coat of paint on the walls that really adds character to the room. Sunny yellow is fine, but traditional. Try some of the new color combinations that are becoming quite trendy. Blues, greens and fiery yellows are all exciting and add a unique character to your kitchen. Try clashing, vibrant colors on your walls. This isn’t for everybody, but if you have eccentric tastes, this is right up your alley. Don’t automatically snub your nose. Once the paint is on the walls and cupboards and you have coordinated your countertop items, you will be pleasantly surprised at how gorgeous clashing colors can truly be.
5. Get organized with shelf organizers that can be used in the pantry and your cupboards. You can save a great deal of space by keeping your food supplies neat and tidy. Try shelves that mount on the inside of your cupboard doors for quick and easy access for the ingredients you use most often. Use wire shelves inside the pantry to create more space for the small jars, cans and spices. Try adding a can holder to keep your cans of veggies and sauces from toppling out onto your toes while searching for what you need.
These are all projects you can do on a weekend. They are fairly simple and only require a few supplies. You can find everything you need at your local Greenwood Hardware.
