Ready for Spring? Your Pacific Northwest Outdoor Checklist
You can taste the spring in the air, which means a new round of outdoor chores are waiting for you. Getting an early start on those things that need taken care of after a long, wet winter means you won’t be scrambling to stay on top of things this spring. Our team at Greenwood Hardware has a few chores you can check off your list before it’s officially spring.
- Now is the time to seal up any holes on the exterior walls of your home. Check around windows, doors and the foundation to identify any problem areas. These are areas were yellowjackets will happily make their nests or ants and mice will use as gateways into your home. You can use spray foam to seal the areas.
- Have your roof cleaned by professionals or climb up and do it yourself. Using a broom to brush off pine needles, moss and other debris on an asphalt roof can help prolong the life of the roof. This is also a great time to check for loose shingles and any other damage.
- It’s been said before, but it deserves mentioning again—clean out the gutters. Gutters are a staple in the rainy Pacific Northwest. Using a gutter tool or simply using your hand to remove any leaf jams is a quick and easy chore to check off the list.
- Early spring is the time to give your lawn the first fertilizer treatment. Use a spreader to get an even amount over the lawn. You can choose a lawn fertilizer that also includes a broadleaf killer to combat the spring dandelion season.
- If you didn’t get to it in the fall, now is a good time to give your deck a fresh coat of stain. This will protect the wood from the upcoming summer months when the sun can cause excessive weathering.
These five chores are a great way to fill the time before spring planting begins. Make a weekend out of it and pull out the barbecue for an after-work treat. You can find the tools you need to take care of your spring checklist at Greenwood Hardware. Come on in, or contact us today.
