Nail Hole Patch Jobs

The little holes left behind by hanging pictures are relatively easy to fix and will leave your wall looking like new again!

  1. Wipe the wall down with a damp cloth to remove any dust or debris.
  2. Use the putty knife to get a small portion of the spackling paste on the end of the knife.
  3. Rub the paste over the holes making a thin layer of the compound.
  4. Smooth out the paste with the edge of the putty knife.
  5. Allow the spackle to completely dry and then use a fine grit sand paper to smooth out the area.
  6. Use a paint roller to paint over the repaired area with a matching paint.

Holes Bigger Than a Quarter, Smaller Than 2 Inches

Fixing a small hole is essentially the same steps as above. However, you will want to use joint compound instead of spackle for a small hole repair. Spackling paste is thicker and doesn’t spread quite as easy as the joint compound.

  1. Clean the area you will be fixing.
  2. Apply a self-adhesive fiberglass wall repair patch over the hole.
  3. Use a putty knife or drywall knife to spread joint compound over the patch until it is completely covered. Smooth out any bumps in the compound with the drywall knife.
  4. Allow the compound to completely dry before sanding the area until the surface is smooth.
  5. Apply a second layer of compound and repeat the drying and sanding process.
  6. Paint over the area with a matching paint.

Wall repair is a lot easier than many people think. Walls that are free of holes give your home a quick facelift with very little effort. If you don’t know the exact shade of paint on an existing wall, head to the hardware store and pick up some swatches to try and match it. If that doesn’t produce results, consider repainting the room with a new color of paint.
