Getting Your Seattle Home Ready for Spring

Getting Your Seattle Home Ready for Spring - Greenwood HardwareIt won’t be long before the first blooms show up throughout the Pacific Northwest indicating a spring is just around the corner. Spring is refreshing and exciting. It means it is time to get ready to head outside and take care of the yard after a muddy winter. There is always a lot to do around the house after you have been forced to hang out inside for months. At Greenwood Hardware, we know you are itching to get outside and get to work in the yard. These are some things you can plan on doing over the next couple of weeks before the planting season gets underway.

Check Your Lawn Equipment

It’s time to pull out the lawnmower, weed blower and all of your other equipment to make sure it is ready to go this spring. Changing the oil, emptying the fuel and replacing with new and changing spark plugs are some of the common duties associated with lawn equipment. If you have decided to buy new, now is the time to take advantage of sales.

Clean the Gutters

You will want to clean out the gutters again and get ready for spring rains. Check for any damage and get it fixed before April showers arrive. You can easily fix holes or replace damaged gutters yourself or hire a professional team to do it for you.

Check the Concrete

If you have a concrete slab for your driveway, sidewalks or a patio, it is a good time to look for cracks. If the weather permits, fill the cracks with a crack filler and seal the driveway. This will help preserve the slab and prevent more cracks and weeds from growing up.

Trims

Check to ensure the trim around your doors and windows is in good shape. If you see exposed wood underneath that looks like it is peeling or it is soft, now is the time to replace it. Spring rains mean the exposed wood is going to be vulnerable to damage. Replace the trim if needed and make sure to caulk around the windows to prevent water leaks.

Reseed the Lawn

If you have dead patches from last year on the lawn, now is the time to put grass seed down. The grass seed should be spread over the area and covered with straw or some lightweight top soil. The moisture from the coming rains will help the seed take root, and your lawn will be lush and full again by the summer.

While the weather is still a bit chilly and it isn’t time to plant flowers or a garden yet, you can take care of these little chores, so when a nice day does come along, you are ready to get busy. Head into Greenwood Hardware and pick up all the supplies you need to get your spring readiness checklist completed. Come on in, or contact us today.
