A fresh coat of paint can do wonders for the look and feel of the interior spaces in your home. Updating your living room, kitchen, bedrooms, or bathrooms with new colors can add value to your property and make your home environment more livable. Even if you’re not an expert on paint, you can breathe new life into your walls with just a few simple tools. Stop by Greenwood Hardware, and we’ll help you get set up with all the supplies you need to create an entirely new look and feel inside your home!

Once you decide what room or rooms you’d like to paint, you’ll need to decide on a color. Consider the furnishings that will be in the room and the floor color before you go shopping for the perfect colors. At Greenwood Hardware, we have a wide selection of interior paint colors that you can choose from.

You’ll also need to decide how shiny you’d like to paint to be. For example, you could get glossy paint, semi-gloss or satin/eggshell sheens. As a general rule, it’s best to get a shinier type of paint for kitchens and bathrooms because shiny paint (high gloss) resists moisture better and it’s easier to clean. But in some instances, an eggshell or satin sheen might be more appropriate in a bathroom, especially if the bathroom is well-ventilated and it doesn’t get used very often (for example, a guest bathroom).

The supply list for interior painting is relatively short: you’ll need a rolling handle and rollers (at least one roller for each color of paint), a paint pan, painter’s plastic, painter’s tape, and a small and a large paint brush. And of course, you’ll need paint! We’ll mix the paint to the exact color for you in the store. If you don’t already have a ladder high enough to reach the top of your walls, you’ll need a ladder too. Choose a roller that will give you the texture you want for your walls.

Get enough painter’s plastic to cover furnishings as well as the floors under the walls you intend to paint. Painter’s tape is generally blue (don’t get masking tape!), and it comes off easily after you’ve finished the job which means it won’t destroy whatever is underneath it when you take it off the wall. Placing the painter’s plastic on the floor and taping it to the edges of windows and floorboards is the first thing that you’ll need to do when you get started on your project. Painter’s plastic and painter’s tape can prevent major tragedies from happening during the painting process.
