Last Minute Winterizing for Your Seattle Yard

Last Minute Winterizing for Your Seattle YardIt is hard to deny winter is here. The temperatures have dropped, and it won’t be long before we see the temperatures plummet. We may even get some snow again this year, which means you need to prepare—just in case. At Greenwood Hardware, you will find what you need to get ready for winter.

Hoses

It is time to roll up and drain the hoses. This is a simple task. Start at one end of the hose, lift it above your head and walk under all the way down to the opposite end. Roll the hose up and store it in the garage or an outside storage container.

Blowing Out the Lines

If you don’t have an air compressor, you will want to hire a service to blow air through your sprinkler lines. This pushes out any standing water. If water is left in the lines, it could freeze and crack the pipes underground.

Gutter Cleanout

You will want to give the gutters a good cleaning. Remove the leaves and other debris that have been falling for the past month. This will help the gutters function properly and hopefully avoid any damage from gutters being clogged.

Prepare for Snow and Ice

Get a snow shovel, gravel and ice melt stored away now, before you need it. Often, stores will run out of these essentials at the first warning of winter weather (we never would at Greenwood Hardware, though!). You don’t want to have to try to navigate your driveway or front walkway without a snow shovel or ice melt. It is best to be prepared for the weather. If you don’t use it, not a problem! It can sit in the garage for another year.

Yard Cleanup

Now that the leaves have fallen from the trees, it is time to get them off the lawn. You don’t want them sitting on the lawn all winter. You will have a much bigger mess to clean up in the spring, and you could be promoting disease and pest infestation by leaving the leaves to rot all winter. Take advantage of neighborhood yard waste pickup.

As we say goodbye to another long summer, there is much to do to get ready for winter. Staying on top of the cleanup will mean your spring will be much easier. Your lawn will be healthier, and you won’t have to worry about dealing with broken pipes and ruined hoses. Head into Greenwood Hardware today to pick up the supplies you need to get your yard ready for winter. Come on in, or contact us today.
